PLAY SYNOPSIS
THE APOTHEOSIS OF HOMER
A two act play set in present time in a male penitentiary. Dr. Samuel Hartman, the prison psychiatrist does his best to alleviate the symptoms of mental illness in this prison but becomes embroiled in a rape of one of his patients, a highly educated pedophile. Dr. Hartman”s wife, Tamara Hartman, is the Deputy Warden, and unbeknownst to Dr. Hartman sets a trap to catch the rapist and his accomplice.
Authors note: No set changes. Minimal set. Script is 48 pages long in standard form. Cast of six.
THE BUDDHA TROUT
A two act play set in present time in the ghetto. Moses, an unemployed middle age alcoholic is befriended by a Buddha which has taken on the form of a trout in a polluted pond where Moses goes to drink. Moses’ wife Monica threatens to divorce him because of his drinking and believes he is suffering from alcoholic delusions. His family agrees. Moses’ daughter, a junkie and prostitute tries to help but her addiction ends up killing her. Moses goes through a process of self-redemption lead by the Buddha, in this sometimes funny and sometimes sad production.
Authors note: Two simple sets that can be rapidly changed back and forth. Cast of seven and an offstage voice of the Buddha. Script is 48 pages long in standard form.
A CONFIDANT FOR TEA
A one act play set in present time in a modest apartment. Abigail, an elderly woman, is visited by her niece Naomi, who has recently learned of her aunt from a letter hidden away by her late mother, Sybil. The play centers around the conflicts between Abigail who in her youth stole away Sybil’s lover and Naomi’s own struggle with her late mother. Sybil’s character, though deceased, is on stage as a apparition or perhaps, the conscience of Abigail.
Authors note: Simple set with no changes. Cast of three. Script is 20 pages long.
